Village Clerk
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for a highly organized Village Clerk. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Village Clerk plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of public records, supporting democratic processes, and ensuring transparency in local government operations.
In this role, the Village Clerk serves the Village and its residents by maintaining official records and coordinating and documenting Village Board meetings, including preparing official meeting minutes. The Village Clerk acts as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer for the Village, and is responsible for assigning responders, assisting with redactions, advising staff members, and ensuring timely and accurate responses.
The Village Clerk coordinates local election processes and voter registration efforts, in accordance with State Statutes and Village Ordinances. The Village Clerk administers oaths of office, manages official filings, and serves as the custodian of the Village’s Corporate Seal and documents. In addition, the Village Clerk responds to resident inquiries regarding Village policies, ordinances and procedures. This position also performs other duties as assigned. The Village Clerk must be able to maintain confidentiality and have the ability to interact with elected officials, staff, and the public with professionalism and discretion. Candidates must be available to attend evening Board meetings on a regular basis.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have excellent communication and organizational skills, be comfortable working independently, and have a solid understanding of state and municipal procedures. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and between 1-3 years of experience in a related setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
The salary range for this position is $82,566 - $111,464, with an anticipated hiring range of $82,566 - $87,197, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time position with a 37.5-hour work week, Monday-Friday. Some evenings hours are required.
